About Us

The Joliet church of Christ is made up of individuals who are committed to serving in God’s kingdom. Our labor is for the Lord, and is not to bring glory to man or any man-made organization. This relationship with God begins with our obedience to the gospel. Scripture tells us when one is seeking God, that hearing His Word (the Bible) concerning what Jesus had done for us should move us to believe it (Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:6; Acts 2:37).

Our Motive

The apostle Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 7:10, “For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.” Our motive for changing our lives (repentance) begins from being sorry we have sinned against God. He has given the ultimate sacrifice for us. He gave His Son to die for our sins so that we can live eternally in heaven. How should we react to that greatest act of love? This should cause sorrow that leads to repentance. The rest is easy. We are asked to confess our belief in Christ before man (Matthew 10:32–33; Romans 10:9–10). The last thing He instructs us to do, in order to become one of His children, is to be baptized for the remission of our sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16; 1 Peter 3:21; Romans 6:3–7).

The Pattern

What better way could Satan come up with than to cause people to think they are right with God while they are still in a lost condition! If we follow the New Testament pattern for conversion, we are added to his church (Acts 2:47). Then we should be part of a group that assembles regularly to worship and serve Him (Hebrews 10:23–35).
